Negative Capability
Negative Capability
Marion Angelica, new and selected ceramics
Opening Reception: Friday, September 2, 6pm to 9pm – light refreshments provided
Closing Reception / Gallery Talk: Friday September 30 — Cancelled
Romantic poet John Keats wrote of the ability to suspend judgment about something in order to learn more about it, implying the ability to resist explaining away what we do not understand. He called this skill negative capability. Recently, our September exhibiting artist, Marion Angelica, has been creating porcelain work laced with open spaces. She is not sure what to think about this development, but she has elected to follow Keats’ admonition, to trust the impulse, to go with it. The work in this show, full of the hallmarks of Angelica’s work – intriguing surfaces, unexpected shapes, graceful lines and surprising color – carries us, with her, into these inviting spaces of not knowing.
The closing event and gallery talk scheduled from 6pm to 9pm on Friday, September 30 has been cancelled. While traveling in Ireland, Marion was exposed to Covid-19 and is testing positive.
