Material and Media Exploration Work by MCAD Foundation Studies Students

Material and Media Exploration Work by MCAD Foundation Studies Students

March 4-30, 2023
Opening reception Monday March 6th, 5pm-8pm
(light refreshments provided)

For several years, we have been pleased and honored to host an MCAD Foundations drawing show in our gallery.  After a pause during the Covid years, we resumed this relationship last year, this time featuring the work of all the genres addressed in the Foundations Program.  Expect to see not only the more traditional 2D paintings and drawings, but also 3D work on pedestals and media pieces on screens placed around the gallery.  (An important aspect to note: all MCAD students take the Foundations classes, regardless of their intended area of interest or focus.)

One of the established goals of the Foundation Program at MCAD is to experiment with concepts, materials, and techniques, to build skill sets in a variety of artmaking processes.  The expected outcome is to lead students to embrace risk-taking as an essential element of the creative process. This exhibit is a celebration of a selection of student’s work produced in the first semester, 2022, in the Foundation Studies Program at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Works produced range from 2D to 3D to 4D, with various media and other techniques, showing the tenacity, versatility, and creativity of the student artists.
